Sincere Ignorance and Conscientious Stupidity

Am I the only one who feels .the whole world going a little crazier every day?

We are in the middle of the worst depression in most of our lifetimes and the front pages of most papers are covered with stories about A Rod.

Someone gets totally wasted and falls in front of a train and the MTA is held responsible for a $2.3 million settlement.

We get fined if we do any kind of work on our houses without a permit but residents who put up illegal walls that block entrances in apartment buildings resulting in the death of firemen are not held responsible.

It seems that it is easier to find Waldo then it is to find a Representative who has actually paid their taxes and the biggest offenders hold positions on Ethics and Banking Committees.

We have no money to keep open firehouses but our Governor finds ways to give his workers raises.

Our ex governor who is responsible for the debacle that is Ground Zero and who still has all his cronies collecting exorbitant salaries at the PA or the LMDC is now considering running for the Senate.

Every day we get another warning about something going on at 130 Liberty as the Deutsche Bank Building continues to cast its shadow on Ground Zero.

We have no money to pay teachers cops and firemen but can spend nearly $500 Million a year funding the LMDC.

We want to grant citizenship to illegals without background checks and we want taxpayers to foot the bill for their lawyers.

And we continue to bail out industry after industry without holding them responsible for what they do with the money.

The list goes on and on.

And it doesn’t appear that it is going to end anytime soon.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity”

Our problem today is that we seem to have an over abundance of both.

And no stimulus package is going to help unless those issues are addressed at every level of government.

When Green Should Mean Stop

Mark Green announced yesterday that he plans to run once again for Public Advocate. This after failed runs for Mayor, Attorney General, Senator and Attorney General.

The sad part about this is that candidates are actually dropping out because they think that he is a lock to win.

That the problem with politics today.

We have career candidates who run for any available office.

That is not what we need.

We need fresh blood, new ideas and someone who is more concerned about what they can do for the public and not someone who is going to run because they have lost every other race.

Someone who is going to look at the current issues, someone who is going to be more concerned with the public and not how well they might be polling for the next available office.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I would rather have someone who will look at all the issues A through Z.

A - Z Sounds like Alex Zablocki to me

Limit Those Salaries

As you know President Obama wants the limit the salaries of executives of companies that have received bailout money.

Good idea in principal but you must to realize who you are dealing with.

These are the same guys who have already made millions while the companies they were managing lost billions.

Don’t you think that they would figure out ways to get around any restrictions?

They would just find other forms of compensation or bonuses or deferred payments to get around any rule.

That’s what they do.

The way I look at it since the government is funding these companies with taxpayer money that makes us shareholders in these companies and our opinions should count.

Well here are mine.

Limit the salaries. If they don’t like it there are thousands that would gladly take the jobs and it’s not like they have been doing such a great job anyway.

No deferred payments or additional compensation packages allowed.

Bonuses should only be allowed based on the company turning a profit.

Any golden parachutes for executives who leave should only be in stock options exercisable five years after departure.

And while we are at it since we are also shareholders in our government why would we want to allow yet another pay increase for members of Congress.

Year after year as the budget deficit grew and grew one thing remained constant. Congress voted themselves a raise every year.

And this year is no different as they voted to increase their salaries by $4,700 to $169,300. (Without perks)

Not a very good example to set considering they have pretty much run the country the same way these execs ran their companies.

So now they reward themselves while the economy is in a tailspin.

Sound familiar.

Maybe Somebody is Finally Listening

We were happy to hear that President Obama is calling for limiting the salaries of executives at businesses bailed out by the government.

Take a moment and click the link below as we recommended this to the old administration back in November.

We have also submitted these ideas to President Obama.

We are also happy to see that he is using the internet to accept ideas.

We will continue to push for these changes that include

Medical benefits for retirees who volunteer

College tuition breaks for students who volunteer

Creating a support network between schools in non disaster areas with schools in those areas.

And creating a political pre-nup

For details on these and other ideas check the links below.

"Life is an Occasion" "Rise to It"....Volunteer

Football season is over.

Baseball does not start until April.

March Madness is over a month away.

The NBA and NHL are not worth watching until the playoffs.

So what are we to do?

How about volunteering?

Get up off of the couch and check out what you can do for your community.

Join a cleanup….donate blood…help stock a food pantry…the opportunities are endless

For our 9/11 families there are still some great organizations that could use your help

Adams Angels

The Fealgood Foundation

The Stephen Siller, FDNY "Let Us Do Good" Children's Foundation

Are just a few worthy causes that could use your help.

And the exercise may do you some good.

Summer will be here before you know it and its pretty hard squeezing a couch potato into a bathing suit.

So

GET UP

GET OUT

GET GOING

“Life Is An Occasion”

“Rise To It”

Volunteer
